Tom Spencer has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Tom started their career as a Chemical Technician at New York State Electric and Gas, where they analyzed organic materials for hazardous waste. Tom then moved on to roles as a Gas Transportation Account Analyst and Senior Gas Supply Coordinator, overseeing gas supply and transportation activities.
Later, Tom joined Empire Natural Gas Corporation as Vice President, where they managed day-to-day operations of a natural gas marketing company. Tom then joined The AES Corporation and held various roles, including Director of Contracts and Credit, Commercial Manager, North America East, and Director of Enterprise Risk Management. In these roles, they managed risk management, settlements, insurance, and enterprise risk management teams, and supported commercial activities and negotiations.
Currently, Tom is the Senior Director of Enterprise and Operational Risk Management at the New York Power Authority. In this position, they are responsible for the management and direction of the enterprise risk management, corporate insurance, and business resiliency programs.
Tom Spencer has a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from SUNY Empire State College, obtained from 1998 to 2002. Tom also has an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Chemistry from SUNY Broome Community College, earned from 1985 to 1988. Furthermore, they hold an AAS degree in Business from the same college, obtained from 1981 to 1984. Prior to their college education, Tom completed their high school education at Windsor Central High School, earning a Regents Diploma in General studies. Additionally, they have obtained a Chief Risk Officer Executive Certificate from George Mason University in the year 2021.
