Audrey Cooper

Audrey Cooper is the Editor in Chief and Senior Vice President at New York Public Radio, where she leads the newsroom and live radio talk shows that power WNYC and Gothamist. She is known nationwide as an advocate for the power local journalism has to transform communities for the better.

Prior to joining New York Public Radio, Cooper was the Editor in Chief of the San Francisco Chronicle – the youngest woman to ever be named editor of a major U.S. newspaper. She transformed the San Francisco Chronicle into a digital juggernaut, and the organization was named Calilfornia’s best newspaper every year of her tenure. Under her leadership the Chronicle won nearly every national reporting award, and Audrey became known for pioneering new types of journalism. That included the SF Homeless Project, a first-of-its-kind collaboration of more than 100 news outlets dedicated to reporting on solutions to end homelessness.

Audrey graduated magna cum laude from Boston University, which has honored her as a distinguished alumna.
