Alec Foster

Alec Foster is a seasoned professional in the biotechnology and bioproducts sector, currently serving as the Bioproducts and Packaging Portfolio Lead at Scion since December 2021. Their mission focuses on replacing petrochemicals with sustainable products derived from trees and biomaterials, facilitating New Zealand's transition to a bioeconomy through collaboration with local companies. In addition, Alec holds roles as an Executive Committee Member at BIOTech New Zealand and a Committee Member for Appita, contributing to the advancement of bioscience and sustainable practices within the forest products industry. Their previous experience includes managing significant research programs in synthetic biology at INVISTA/Koch Industries and leading research initiatives at Radiata Pine Breeding Company. Alec’s academic credentials include a PhD in Chemical Engineering, an MRes in Engineering, an MSc in Information Technology, and a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science.
