Andrew Townend

Andrew Townend serves as the Deputy Head of Mission at the New Zealand Embassy in Moscow since January 2023, previously holding a similar position in Mexico City from July 2018 to August 2021, where Andrew also acted as Chargé d'affaires a. i. Prior experience includes roles as Senior Legal Adviser specializing in Antarctica and Law of the Sea, as well as First Secretary at the NZ Embassy in Berlin. Andrew has held various legal advisory positions at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, focusing on international trade law and law of the Pacific, and worked as a legal and constitutional adviser in the Cabinet Office of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Educational qualifications include an LLM in Deutsches Recht from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and a combined BA in Politics and Italian with an LLB (first-class honours) from Victoria University of Wellington.
