Pete Williams has extensive experience in international development and foreign affairs, currently serving as Deputy Head of Mission and First Secretary for Development at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade since June 2022. Previous roles at the Ministry include Senior Adviser for Climate Change and Environment and Adviser for NGO Partnerships. Williams has also worked as a Senior Adviser at Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage and held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Partnerships Officer and Team Administrator. In academia, Williams completed a PhD in Development Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, where prior education included a Master of Development Studies and a Bachelor of Science. Other professional experiences include roles at Save the Children International and Trade Aid New Zealand, focusing on policy, research, and international programs.
