Annamarie Saarinen has a diverse work experience. Annamarie began their career in 2003 as a Board of Directors member at Artspace Projects, where they supported the mission of creating, fostering, and preserving affordable space for artists and arts organizations. In 2004, they joined the Board of Directors at Adopt A Room, which was founded by two families who experienced recurring, extended hospital stays with their terminally ill children. In 2009, they became a Project Investigator and Policy Liaison at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. In 2010, they Co-Founded and Co-Chaired the Board of the Newborn Foundation, which leverages health innovations to improve access and health outcomes for newborns and infants. Annamarie also became a Principal, Sr. Counselor, and Economist at Ainsley Shea. In 2012, they joined the Board of Directors of the Pediatric Device Innovation Consortium. In 2015, they became a Member of the Newborn Screening Advisory Committee at the Minnesota Department of Health. In 2016, they became a Co-Founder at Bloom Standard, where they were embedded in Swansea University Medical School | Institute of Life Science, Wales and the Hong Kong Science & Technology Park, IncuBIo and the HK AI Lab. Annamarie focused on innovations for medically fragile children in remote and low-resource settings. In 2017, they were appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services to serve on the Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children. In 2020, they became a Health Economics & Outcomes Research at Masimo.
Annamarie Saarinen completed their Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Iowa State University, followed by a Master of Arts in Economics from the same institution. Annamarie then became a Humphrey Policy Fellow at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs in the Center for the Study of Policy and Governance. Lastly, they pursued further studies at the Yale School of Public Health in Global Health.
