Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG)
Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group Pty Limited (NCIG) owns and operates one of Australia's major coal export terminals with proximate rail, storage and shiploading facilities and associated infrastructure. We are located on Kooragang Island at the Port of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia and are strategically placed at the mouth of the Hunter River, approximately 160 kilometres from Sydney. The Terminal is situated on an industrialised island and has strong logistical connections as part of the Hunter Valley Coal Chain integrated coal export infrastructure operation. NCIG services long life coal mines in the Newcastle, Hunter Valley, Gunnedah, Gloucester and Western Coalfields of New South Wales by providing access to port infrastructure to export their coal production. We form part of the export gateway for the substantial Hunter Valley coal industry, with the Port of Newcastle representing the export route for production in the region. Over 90% of coal exported through the NCIG Terminal is thermal coal to be supplied to established energy consumers in Asia such as Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, with significant recent and forecast growth in exports to the developing economy of China.
