Anna Barker

VP, Corporate Accounting at New Castle Hotels & Resorts

“Stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold.” Sure, it’s a quote from The Outsiders, Anna’s favourite book, but they like to think that as the VP of Corporate Accounting the line also guides her approach to overseeing their accounting transactions related to income and real estate taxes; property purchases, sales, and financing; leads the corporate yearend tax return process; and general corporate accounting.

Anna’s played a key role with New Castle Hotels since 1992, after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Accounting, from Central Connecticut State University. After a few months in her initial role with the operations team as Accounts Payable Clerk, Anna quickly moved through the ranks as Staff Accountant, Assistant Controller, Corporate Accounting Analyst and then Manager, Senior Manager, Director, Senior Director and now VP of Corporate Accounting.

Anna turns the outdated stereotype of “boring ol’ accountant” on its head, boasting outside-interests as eclectic as they get. When she’s not on a boat or enjoying a day at the beach, Anna is…serving as a Eucharistic Minister in the Roman Catholic Church. Another favourite pastime is overusing the red heart emoji in the same way others are known to abuse their exclamation mark privileges.

Anna credits New Castle’s entrepreneurial environment with allowing her the opportunity and space to learn and grow in each role she has held, but they reckon her intense focus and commitment to getting the job done is actually more of a guttural reaction to the profound disappointment she felt when Frenchy dropped out of Beauty School in the movie Grease, a top-of-the-list, all-time cinematic classic in Anna’s books.
