Engineering Technologist - Substations at Newfoundland Power

Matthew Pennell has a diverse work experience. Matthew started working at Newfoundland Power in 2018 as a Regional Operations Co-op Student, where they focused on phase identification, distribution system improvements, area tech duties, and phase balancing. In 2019, they worked as a Transmission Engineering Co-op Student at the same company. In the same year, they also joined Jungle Jims Eatery as a Server Supervisor. Since 2019, they have been working at Newfoundland Power as an Engineering Technologist. In this role, they have been involved in drafting with AutoCAD, substation design, commissioning of Schweitzer relays, testing and design of substation ground grids, and using omicron test equipment for grounding studies and relay injections.

Matthew Pennell attended the College of the North Atlantic from 2015 to 2019, where they pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with a specialization in Power and Controls.
