Peter Maloney

Part Time Faculty - Lecturer at NewSchool of Architecture & Design

Peter Maloney is an accomplished structural engineer with extensive experience in earthquake engineering, currently serving as Associate Principal at Degenkolb Engineers since June 2011. Maloney specializes in managing and delivering structural engineering projects, particularly within high seismic zones, focusing on healthcare, higher education, and historic buildings. In addition to practical engineering roles, Maloney enhances education as a part-time lecturer at the NewSchool of Architecture & Design, teaching structural engineering concepts to third-year architecture students. Leadership in the structural engineering community is exemplified through the role of Existing Buildings Committee Chair for the Structural Engineering Association of San Diego, addressing issues of evaluation, repair, and retrofit of existing buildings. Maloney's foundational experience includes research on seismic provisions for welded steel frames and various construction inspections. Maloney holds a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from UC San Diego and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
