Ben Chen, Ph.D, P.Eng. has a diverse work experience spanning over 20 years. Ben'smost recent position was as the Lead, Structural & Civil Engineering at NexGen Energy Ltd since July 2023. Prior to that, they worked as the Principal Structural Engineer at Lundin Mining Corporation from June 2022 to June 2023. From 2015 to 2022, they held several roles at BHP, including Principal Structural Shaft Planning, Principal CSA Engineer, and Superintendent FLC Engineering. Ben also served as a Senior Structural Engineer at Jacobs in 2014, and as a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer at Agrium from 2012 to 2014. Before that, they worked as a Senior Structural Engineer at SNC-Lavalin, Cameco Corporation, and March Consulting Associates Inc. Ben began their career as a Lead Structural Engineer and Project Manager at Shenzhen University Architectural and Engineering Design and Research Institute from 2000 to 2010, and also served as a Visiting Scholar at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 1999 to 2000.
Ben Chen, Ph.D, P.Eng. received their Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from Hefei University of Technology in 1989. Ben then went on to pursue their Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering from Wuhan University of Technology, completing it in 1994. Continuing their education, they obtained their Ph.D in Structural Engineering from the same university in 2000. Prior to their university studies, they completed their secondary education at Tongling Middle School.
