David O'Gwynn

Director of Cyber Security at Next Step Innovation

David O'Gwynn has worked in a variety of roles across the technology industry. David began their career in 2000 as a Research Assistant at Mississippi State University, where they worked in the fields of mathematical grid generation, computational field simulation and high performance computing. In 2003, they became a System Administrator at Watkins-O'Gwynn Consulting Electrical Engineers, where they developed and maintained a web-based project tracking database and used CAD and AutoLisp hacking. In 2005, they moved to the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a Graduate Assistant, researching graphics, visualization, 3D shape modeling and teaching Python. In 2011, they joined MIT Lincoln Laboratory as Technical Staff. In 2015, they became the Assistant Professor and Chair of the Computer Science Department at Belhaven University. Most recently, in 2021, they were appointed as the Director of Cyber Security at Next Step Innovation.

David O'Gwynn attended Northwest Rankin HS before completing a B.S. in Mathematics at Belhaven University from 1995-1999. David then went on to complete a M.S. in Computational Engineering at Mississippi State University from 2000-2003. Finally, they obtained their Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2005-2011. In addition, they obtained the Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) certification from Offensive Security in August 2016.
