Aravindan Thulasinathan

Aravindan Thulasinathan has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Aravindan currently holds the role of Staff Software Engineer at Nextdoor, starting in 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Meta from 2017 to 2023, where they served as a Software Engineer (E6) and was responsible for leading the development of the privacy metadata curation platform. Aravindan played a key role in building the platform and the associated team from scratch.

Before joining Meta, Aravindan worked at Oracle from 2015 to 2017 as a Senior Software Engineer. In this position, they served as a Tech Lead and oversaw the migration of C++ based legacy data and control planes to Spark data plane and a Java-based Control plane. Aravindan also implemented stream processing events from Apache Kafka and championed changes to optimize Yarn Container usage, resulting in a significant reduction in hardware usage. Aravindan also designed a Stream to Batch Process bridge to seamlessly integrate data from both processing modes.

Earlier in their career, Aravindan had a role as a Senior Software Engineer at Kareo in 2015, where they focused on backend performance improvements for the existing EHR product line. Aravindan was involved in re-writing the billing workflow and collaborated closely with the product team to beta-test and monitor the feature.

Prior to Kareo, Aravindan worked at Symantec from 2011 to 2015 as a Senior Software Engineer, contributing to the development of Symantec's DLP applications on the OpenStack cloud platform. Aravindan was a part of the DLP data discovery team, responsible for crawling data at rest. Additionally, they worked on integrating DLP with a data-governance engine and maintaining the core-crawler framework.

Aravindan's career began in 2008 as an Associate Systems Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services, where they worked for a short period of time.
