NGO DELEGATION TO THE UNAIDS PCB
Since the launch of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in 1996, people living with HIV (PLHIV) and representatives from NGOs and networks worldwide have been part of its board, called the Programme Coordinating Board (PCB). Civil society participates as a Delegation of NGOs and joins governments and other UN agencies in providing oversight on policy, strategy, finance, monitoring and evaluation of UNAIDS. The NGO Delegation represents community voices. Its mission is to ensure that the priorities, interests and human rights of affected people are considered in UNAIDS decisions, programmes and policies and to enhance the transparency and accountability of relevant UNAIDS decision-making and policy-setting. It plays a key role in promoting greater participation and meaningful involvement of PLHIV and civil society in the development, implementation and evaluation phases in order to ensure access to comprehensive HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
