Karen Fleming

Karen Fleming is a skilled professional in the field of medical photography and illustration, currently working at NHS Lothian since December 2022. Previously, Karen hosted a solo exhibition at Surgeons’ Hall Museums, showcasing the temporary exhibition "Beyond Skin and Muscle: the art and science of medical illustration," which featured 2D and 3D reconstructions of skulls demonstrating various medical conditions. As a business owner at Curious Freak from August 2019 to December 2022, Karen created high-quality, unique products inspired by vintage anatomical illustrations. Additionally, experience includes facial reconstruction work within the archaeology division at Edinburgh Museums and serving as the director of DOK Artist Space from March 2015 to January 2019. Karen holds a Master's degree in Forensic Art and Facial Identification from the University of Dundee, a BA (Hons) in Painting from The University of Edinburgh, and an HND in Contemporary Art Practice from Edinburgh College.
