Arne Bardalen

Arne Bardalen has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Arne started their career as a County Agronomist at the County Agricultural Office in Finnmark County, Norway in 1981. Arne then worked as a Senior Consultant at The Norwegian Land and Peat Association from 1982 to 1985.

From 1985 to 1993, Bardalen held various positions at the County Agricultural Office in Oslo and Akershus, including County Agronomist, Project Manager, and Head of the Department of Economic Development. In these roles, they focused on regional planning processes, land resource conservation, and the protection of agricultural land.

In 1993, Bardalen joined the County Governor of Oslo and Akershus, Norway as the Director and head of the Department of Agriculture. Arne held this position until 1998, during which they also served as the Deputy County Governor from 1998 to 2000 and as the Acting County Governor from 2000 to 2001.

Bardalen then transitioned to the Norwegian Institute for Land Inventory and served as the Director General from 2001 to 2004. Arne subsequently worked as a Project Coordinator at the Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture and Food from 2004 to 2005.

In 2005, Bardalen returned to the Norwegian Institute for Land Inventory as the Director General until 2006 when they joined the Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute as the Director General where they served until 2015.

Since 2015, Bardalen has been associated with the NIBIO Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research in various roles. Initially, they worked as a Special Adviser on Climate Change and Agriculture, where they led the secretariat for an Expert Committee responsible for an assessment report to the Government on Norwegian climate policy for the agricultural sector and published a report on potential future turnover in Norwegian agriculture and food value chains. Arne then took on the role of Director of Research.
