Bas Swinkels

Researcher In The Gravitational Waves Group at Nikhef (Nationaal instituut voor subatomaire fysica)

Bas Swinkels is a researcher in the Gravitational Waves group at Nikhef, the National Institute for Subatomic Physics, since February 2018. Prior to this role, Bas served as an applied physicist at the European Gravitational Observatory from December 2006 to January 2018, contributing to the commissioning of the Virgo Interferometer, which achieved the first direct detection of gravitational waves. Bas earned a PhD in Applied Physics from Delft University of Technology in 2006 and obtained an MSc in Applied Physics from the University of Twente in 2001, with an internship completed at Victoria University in 1999.
