Dr. Simon Merkt-Schippers

Dr. Simon Merkt-Schippers has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Dr. Simon is currently working at SLM Solutions, where they hold the position of EVP Product Management, starting in June 2021. Prior to that, they served as the Head of Product Management at the same company from July 2020 to May 2021. From January 2019 to June 2020, they worked as the Director of Business Development Aviation & Aerospace at SLM Solutions.

Before joining SLM Solutions, Dr. Merkt-Schippers worked at TRUMPF as the Industry Manager for Additive Manufacturing from November 2015 to December 2018. Dr. Simon also served as a Guest Lecturer at Hochschule Albstadt-Sigmaringen from April to September 2018.

Their career began at Fraunhofer ILT, where they worked as a Researcher in Additive Manufacturing from January 2011 to October 2015. Dr. Simon also had a brief role as a Guest Scientist at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in August to October 2012.

Dr. Merkt-Schippers gained experience as a Graduand (Diplomand) at Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) from November 2010 to April 2011. Prior to that, they worked as a Student Research Assistant at Bavarian Laser Centre (blz) and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, involving conference organization and the design of optical medical instruments.

Additionally, Dr. Merkt-Schippers completed an internship at Volkswagen of America (VWoA) in Technical Project Management from February to July 2009 and a shop floor internship at Siemens Medical Solutions in September to October 2007.

Dr. Simon Merkt-Schippers earned their Dr. Ing. degree in Additive Manufacturing from RWTH Aachen University, which they attended from 2011 to 2015. Prior to that, they completed their Diplom degree in Industrial Engineering (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen) at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg from 2005 to 2011. Additionally, they obtained a certification as a Lean Manager from Management Circle in 2014 and 2015.
