Xavier Valls Pla

Software Engineer at Nimagna

Xavier Valls Pla has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Xavier started their career as a Piano Instructor at Escola oficial de música 3X4 in 2009. In 2010, they worked as a Research and Development Engineer at Cognitive Robots S.L., where they focused on computer vision research and algorithm optimization. From 2013 to 2014, Xavier worked as a Research Associate at Universitat Jaume I de Castellón, where they implemented optimization algorithms for energy consumption and cost minimization.

In 2013, they also participated in the Google Summer of Code program as an R Programmer, where they developed the Meucci package and provided technical documentation. Xavier continued their involvement in the Google Summer of Code program in 2015 as an R Programmer for The R Project for Statistical Computing.

From 2014 to 2015, Xavier worked as a Software Engineer and Technical Student on the SixTrack project at CERN. In 2015, they also worked as a Doctoral Student at CERN, where they focused on developing task level parallelism tools for the ROOT Data Analysis Framework, improving performance in production and analysis workflows.

After completing their doctoral position, Xavier worked as a Collaborating Professor at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya for a brief period in 2019. Xavier then returned to CERN and held various roles from 2018 to 2021, including Senior Fellow at IT-CF-FPP and Senior Fellow at Techlab. In these positions, they were involved in hardware systems and components-related tasks, benchmarking analysis code, and automating user management and system administration processes.

Currently, Xavier is the Software Engineer and first employee at Nimagna, a cutting-edge startup that focuses on revolutionizing online communications. Xavier has played a significant role in the development of the Nimagna application, contributing to the design, implementation, and key features of the product.

Throughout their career, Xavier has gained expertise in programming languages such as C++, Python, and R, as well as software engineering concepts and tools like Docker, Singularity, Gitlab CI/CD, and Kibana.

Xavier Valls Pla has an extensive education history spanning from 2001 to 2018. In 2001, they attended the Conservatori professional de música Mestre Tárrega, where they obtained a Professional Intermediate-Level Music Degree with a focus on the piano. From 2005 to 2011, they pursued a Degree in Computer Science Engineering (equivalent to a Bachelor's and Master's degree) at Universitat Jaume I. Following this, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics at the University of Oulu during the academic year 2012 to 2013. Xavier then returned to Universitat Jaume I and completed a Master's Degree in Computational Mathematics from 2012 to 2014. Continuing their academic journey, they attained a Bachelor's Degree in Computational Mathematics from Universitat Jaume I in 2015. Finally, from 2015 to 2018, Xavier pursued a Doctoral Programme in Computer Science at Universitat Jaume I, specializing in the field of Computer Science.
