Josep Bassaganya-Riera

Josep Bassaganya-Riera has extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with a focus on precision medicine and immunology. Currently, they serve as the Executive Chairman, President, and CEO of NImmune Biopharma, where they lead the development of biomarker-driven immunoregulatory therapeutics. Prior to this, they held executive positions at Biotherapeutics Inc., where they utilized advanced computational modeling and AI to accelerate product development, and at Landos Biopharma, where they founded the company and developed therapeutics for autoimmune diseases.

Additionally, Bassaganya-Riera founded and served as the Founding Executive Director & President of The NIMML Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to precision medicine at the intersection of immunology, inflammation, and metabolism. Josep also has a strong academic background, having served as a Director and Professor at Virginia Tech, where they established a pioneering immunology research program and founded the Center for Modeling Immunity to Enteric Pathogens. Prior to that, they worked as a Research Scientist at Iowa State University, where they founded the Nutritional Immunology and Molecular Medicine Laboratory and developed animal models to study the effects of nutraceuticals in infectious and autoimmune diseases. Throughout their career, Bassaganya-Riera has authored influential books and publications on computational methods and immune system regulation.

Josep Bassaganya-Riera earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Nutrition and Immunology from Iowa State University, where they studied from 1997 to 2000. Prior to that, they obtained a DVM degree in Veterinary Medicine from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where they studied from 1992 to 1997.
