Judy Sutherland

Judy Sutherland is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in both scientific research and psychotherapy. Currently serving as Regional Manager and Scientist at NIWA since July 2015, Judy specializes in molecular systematics and phylogenetics of marine macroalgae. Previously, Judy worked as a Senior Research Fellow at The University of Auckland and the University of Otago, concentrating on molecular systematics and mentoring graduate students. Alongside scientific pursuits, Judy has a robust background in psychotherapy, having worked with individuals and couples in private practice and as a volunteer therapist at Waitakere Abuse and Trauma Counselling Service, addressing various psychological issues. Judy holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Otago and is a trained psychodrama practitioner.
