Nikolaas Vles has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Nikolaas served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at NIZO from September 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Stibbe as a Senior Associate and an Associate in the London office, from February 2007 to June 2014. Nikolaas also had a secondment at Herbert Smith Freehills Moscow office from July 2011 to February 2012.

Nikolaas Vles has a diverse education history. In 1994, they began their academic journey at Gemeentelijk Gymnasium Hilversum, where they completed their secondary education. Moving forward, they attended the University of Amsterdam from 2001 to 2006, earning a Master's degree in Civil Law. In 2004 and 2005, they went on an Erasmus exchange program at the University of Essex. Subsequently, in 2006, they attended the Columbia Summer School in Leiden (NL) at Columbia University. To further enhance their knowledge and skills, Nikolaas pursued executive education at renowned institutions. In 2010, they participated in the "Highlights of MBA" Executive Education program at INSEAD. Additionally, in 2015, they attended the London Business School for the M&A Executive Education. Lastly, in 2014, they completed a post-graduate program in Corporate Law at the Grotius Academy.
