Matthew Hölzel

Principal Embedded Engineer at NODAR

Matthew Hölzel has extensive work experience in various roles related to embedded engineering, data science, and research. Matthew currently works as a Principal Embedded Engineer at NODAR, starting in 2022. Prior to this, they were a Senior 3D Data Scientist at Teraki GmbH from 2018 to 2022, where they designed algorithms for autonomous cars, delivery robots, drones, and other platforms. Matthew worked on algorithms for the edge, interfacing with low-level sensor software on Linux.

From 2014 to 2018, Matthew Hölzel served as a Professor at the University of Bremen, leading the research group "Parallel Computing for Embedded Sensor Systems." Their focus was on developing and implementing parallel image processing, system identification, and control algorithms for controlling autonomous systems. Matthew demonstrated this capability by implementing algorithms on Android phones mounted on quadcopters.

Prior to their academic roles, Matthew Hölzel worked as a Research Scientist at DLR from 2012 to 2014 and as a NASA Fellow at the University of Michigan from 2008 to 2012. Matthew also gained experience as an Associate Software Engineer at FAAC Incorporated in 2007.

Overall, Matthew Hölzel has a diverse background in embedded engineering, data science, and research, specializing in algorithms for autonomous systems.

Matthew Hölzel has an extensive education history in the field of aerospace engineering. Matthew obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and Mathematics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2007. Matthew then furthered their education at the University of Michigan, where they earned a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from 2007 to 2009. Matthew continued at the University of Michigan and completed their Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from 2009 to 2012. In 2017, they pursued a Self-Driving Car Engineer Nano Degree from Udacity, specializing in Autonomous Driving. Matthew also holds additional certifications in Machine Learning from Coursera Course Certificates and a Verified Certificate for Data Science Essentials from edX.
