NoLeFa-84 is a two-year pilot project (2024–2026) laying the groundwork for future Union AI Testing Facilities that will support market surveillance under the EU AI Act through testing, coordination, and standardisation activities.

Coordinated by Inria, the consortium brings together six complementary partners: public bodies Inria and LNE; specialised SMEs Piccadilly Labs SL, leiwand.ai and Numalis; and the European research network CAIRNE. Together, the partnership combines regulatory expertise, advanced technical know-how, and European ecosystem outreach capacity.

NoLeFa contributes to the development of harmonised standards at CEN-CENELEC and ISO/IEC, supporting compliance pathways for high-risk AI systems. It develops and shares testing tools to assess AI system performance, including criteria such as bias, robustness, and data quality, with regular open-source updates. The project also builds collaboration networks and provides workshops, technical guidance, and training to market surveillance authorities.

Through these activities, NoLeFa strengthens Europe’s capacity to implement and support trustworthy, compliant AI systems.
