Joseph K. Bernard

Joseph K. Bernard has extensive experience in civilian protection, human rights advocacy, and security analysis. Currently serving as an International Civilian Protection Monitor with Nonviolent Peaceforce in the Philippines since May 2018, Bernard also holds the role of Information Security Specialist at Standard Gauge Railway from August 2017. Prior experience includes leadership as Field Team Leader in Maguindanao for Nonviolent Peaceforce, focusing on compliance with peace agreements in conflict regions, and a Senior Human Rights Officer at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, where responsibilities encompassed investigating human rights violations and collaborating with law enforcement. Bernard's career began as an Inspector of Police with the Kenya Police Service, highlighting a strong background in criminal investigation and analysis. Educational qualifications include an MA in Armed Conflict and Peace Studies from the University of Nairobi and a BA in Sociology and Economics from Egerton University.
