William Dunbar has an extensive work experience in the field of nanopore technology. William is the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Nooma Bio, a company that focuses on the development and productization of dual-nanopore technology. William invented Nooma's core dual-nanopore technology and led its development for controlling and mapping genomic and epigenetic features on single molecules of genomic DNA.
Prior to their role at Nooma Bio, Dunbar was the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Ontera, where they played a key role in developing single nanopore technology applications. William also co-founded Two Pore Guys, Inc. and served as its Chief Technology Officer, successfully raising funds for the company through seed and series A rounds.
Dunbar's academic background includes positions as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering at the University of California at Santa Cruz. William'sresearch focused on applying applied mathematics and control theory to enhance nanopores for single-molecule analysis of DNA, RNA, proteins, and other analytes. William'swork resulted in numerous publications and patents, some of which were licensed and commercialized by Oxford Nanopore Technologies and Nooma Bio.
Additionally, Dunbar worked as a Consultant at Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc., where they developed theory and algorithms to support the development of autonomous vehicle methods. William'scontributions led to the issuance of patents, research papers, and the deployment of real-time logic on test vehicles.
Overall, Dunbar's work experience demonstrates their expertise in nanopore technology, fundraising, and technology development.
William Dunbar obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Tech, from 1993 to 1997. William then pursued a Master of Science degree in Applied Mechanics at UC San Diego, from 1997 to 1999. Subsequently, Dunbar attended Caltech, where they obtained their PhD in Control and Dynamical Systems, from 1999 to 2004.
