Matthew Lewis

Matthew Lewis is an experienced manager with a strong background in event analysis, training, and education within the energy and defense sectors. Currently serving as the Manager of Event Analysis at the North American Electric Reliability Corporation since March 2014, Matthew leads a team focused on assessing bulk power system events and trends while ensuring lessons learned are disseminated across the industry. Prior roles at NERC included managing the Training and Education Department and improving corporate training programs. Matthew's military experience includes planning and executing high-level exercises for the Joint Staff and serving as an Observer/Trainer for the United States Joint Forces Command. Holding a Master of Science in Applied Physics with a specialty in nuclear engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Physics, Matthew's educational background complements extensive leadership roles in the U.S. Army, including command positions.

NERC develops and enforces Reliability Standards; annually assesses seasonal and long‐term reliability; monitors the bulk power system through system awareness; and educates, trains, and certifies industry personnel. NERC’s area of responsibility spans the continental United States, Canada, and the northern portion of Baja California, Mexico. NERC is the electric reliability organization for North America, subject to oversight by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and governmental authorities in Canada.
