Russell Rawlings has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Russell began their career in 1974 as an Assistant Sports Editor at the Wilson Daily Times, where they worked until 1984. During this time, they gained experience in sports journalism. In 1984, they joined Barton College as the Director of Alumni Activities, a role they held until 1987. Here, they focused on alumni engagement and development. Russell then returned to the Wilson Daily Times as the Managing Editor from 1987 to 1990, further expanding their journalism skills and leadership abilities. Following this, Rawlings joined Barton College again in 1990, this time as the Director of Development and Public Relations, where they remained until 1999. In this role, they were responsible for fundraising and managing public relations efforts. Finally, in 2001, they joined the North Carolina Bar Association as the Assistant Director of Communications. Over the years, they advanced to roles such as Director of Communications and Director of External Affairs and Communications, the position they hold currently. Rawlings has demonstrated expertise in communications, public relations, alumni engagement, and leadership throughout their career.
