Vice President, Energy Portfolio at North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives

Jimmy Wilkins, CPA has extensive work experience in the energy industry. Jimmy currently serves as the Vice President of Energy Portfolio at North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives, where they manage and leads two teams focused on near-term and long-term portfolio optimization, commodity risk management, and compliance with renewable portfolio standards. Jimmy also has experience in contract negotiation, risk management, and the development of planning scenarios to achieve sustainability goals.

Prior to their current role, Jimmy was the Director of Portfolio and Resource Optimization at North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives, where they were responsible for portfolio optimization and commodity risk management. Jimmy also supported the acquisition and negotiation of utility-scale solar sites and tax-advantaged financing.

Before joining North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives, Jimmy worked at Progress Energy, where they held various roles. Jimmy served as a Renewable Analyst, supporting renewable compliance and conducting market research and financial analysis. Jimmy was also a Lead Portfolio Analyst on the Merger Integration Team, leading a cross-functional team to develop business processes and reporting for joint asset dispatch. Jimmy was a Senior Portfolio Analyst in Regulated Portfolio Management, where they provided generation costing analysis and support to power, natural gas, oil, and emissions traders. Additionally, they worked as a Project Manager in the Accounting Department, implementing an inventory management and accounting system, and as a Senior Financial Specialist in RCO Financial Planning & Analysis, developing profit and capital forecasts.

Jimmy began their career as an Audit Intern at Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Overall, their work experience demonstrates their expertise in energy portfolio management, resource optimization, financial analysis, and project management.

Jimmy Wilkins, CPA received a Master of Science in Accounting from North Carolina State University in the year 2001. Prior to this, they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the same institution in the year 2000. In August 2003, Jimmy obtained the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification from North Carolina.

North Carolina’s electric cooperatives are a network of not-for-profit electric utility organizations powering the days and empowering the lives of 2.5 million North Carolinians from the mountains to the coast. This group includes: North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation, the power supplier to the co-ops; North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives, the trade association providing services to them; and Tarheel Electric Membership Association, the organization that supplies the cooperatives with the materials necessary to maintain their modern, sophisticated systems. Each cooperative is independent and owned by the people, called members, to whom it provides service. Those members elect the cooperative’s board of directors, which is responsible for establishing the cooperative’s policies, goals and strategies.
