North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL)
Electricity is the driving force of modern civilization as well as the back-bone of all development activities of the country. But the present generation capacity of the country is not sufficient enough to meet the prevailing load demand of the country and causes insurmountable impedance to the development activities in industrial, commercial, agricultural and other social sectors. Furthermore, the load demand is increasing at a faster rate which needs more power plants to generate electricity for supporting the development activities for total development of the country. In spite of this, the Government is committed to provide electricity for all by 2020. To cope-up with the growing load demand as well as to comply with the policy of the Government enough generation of electricity needs to be added. In pursuance of the above, with a view to meeting the growing demand of electricity in the North-West region of the country, North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) has been formed, incorporated and registered in August, 2007 under the framework of the Government Power Sector Reforms Policy and the provision of the Companies Act, 1994. The Company has primarily started its functioning with Khulna 150 MW Peaking Power Plant Project, Sirajganj 150 MW Peaking Power Plant Project and Bheramara 360 MW Combined Cycle Power Development Project. The Company intends to be the leading power generating utility in the country in the long run.
