Matt Rice

Matt Rice serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Northern since April 2024, bringing extensive leadership experience in the rail industry. Previously, Matt held the position of Route Director at Network Rail from March 2017 to March 2024, focusing on enhancing rail services across Northern England. Prior roles include Head of Strategic Planning at Network Rail Consulting and Programme Manager (Associate Director), leading significant change initiatives to elevate company performance. Matt's career at Network Rail also encompassed roles such as Operational Planning Manager, CRE, Project Sponsor, Community Relations Manager, and Maintenance Manager, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of operational leadership and strategic planning. Matt earned a PG Certificate in Strategic Leadership from the University of Warwick and a BSc in Management, Economics & History from Prifysgol Aberystwyth University.
