Julien Desfossez

Julien Desfossez has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries.

Julien started their career in 2004 as a PHP/MySQL developer at Magellan Concept. Julien then worked as an analyst at Révolution Linux from 2005 to 2012.

In 2009, Julien became an organizer for the computer security competition HackUS. Julien also served as the Co-Vice President of Infrastructure at NorthSec, a volunteer-run computer security competition and conference, where they deployed and managed networks, wifi, and servers. Julien occasionally created contests related to network, kernel, BPF, and botnet.

From 2012 to 2018, they worked as a software developer at EfficiOS Inc.

In 2018, Julien joined DigitalOcean as a Senior Performance Engineer. Julien focused on hypervisor performance engineering, system-level optimizations, and performance products development. Julien was the author and maintainer of the open-source tool vmtop. In 2021, they became the team lead for the performance engineering team at DigitalOcean.

Their most recent position is as a Senior Software Engineer at Lambda, which they started in 2023.

Julien Desfossez has an extensive education history. Julien obtained a Ph.D. in Computing from Polytechnique Montréal from 2012 to 2016. Prior to that, they completed a M.Sc.A in Computer Engineering from the same institution from 2010 to 2012. Their undergraduate studies were completed at Université de Sherbrooke, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science from 2006 to 2009. Before attending Université de Sherbrooke, Julien Desfossez obtained a DUT degree in Génie des télécommunications et des réseaux from Université d'Artois from 2003 to 2005.
