Steve Witmer is an experienced mental health counselor with a diverse background in both counseling and pastoral leadership. Currently serving as a Mental Health Counselor LPCC at Northwest Family Counseling since March 2018 and as a Mental Health Counselor at NorthStar Regional since November 2017, Steve also teaches online counseling courses at Crown College as an Adjunct Professor. Previous roles include providing counseling services at Northland Counseling Services and Krisma Counseling, as well as serving as Senior Pastor at Rivers Edge Community Church, where Steve facilitated growth and expanded facilities. With a foundation in pastoral ministries from Bethel Evangelical Free Church and academic experience as an Adjunct Professor at Presentation College, Steve holds a PhD from Oxford Graduate School, a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education from the University of Northwestern – St. Paul.

SUBSTANCE USE TREATMENT NorthStar Regional treats co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders at the same time, in the same place, with the same highly qualified and highly trained staff. Medical, psychiatric, psychological, and social components of treatment are blended to achieve the highest level of success. MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES NorthStar Regional provides individual, marriage, and family counseling services for clients of all ages. We also offer several group programs for those who need more intensive treatment. ASSESSMENTS An assessment is the first step in helping our clients get the proper level of care. We provide both Rule 25/chemical use assessments and mental health assessments. HOUSING Finding safe housing is often an important part of substance use treatment. NorthStar Regional offers housing through our residential programs, intensive outpatient programs with lodging, and sober homes - a total of 336 beds across the system.
