Lisa M. Hughes has extensive experience in the field of education, particularly in special education. Lisa is currently the Director of Student Services and Special Education at Norwich Public Schools. Prior to this role, they worked as an Adjunct Professor at various institutions including Assumption University, Johnson & Wales University, and Roger Williams University. Before transitioning into higher education, Lisa served as the Director of Student Services for East Greenwich Public Schools. Lisa also has experience as a Fellow and Teacher Consultant at the Rhode Island Writing Project. Lisa began their career as a Special Educator at Scituate, RI Public Schools and Abington, MA Public Schools.
Lisa M. Hughes began their education at Ponaganset High School, where they attended from 1983 to 1987. After high school, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Elementary Education at Rhode Island College, where they studied from 1987 to 1991. Following their undergraduate studies, Lisa pursued further education at Providence College, earning a Master of Education (M.Ed) degree in Special Education between 1992 and 1994.
In 2016, Lisa returned to academia and enrolled at Johnson & Wales University, where they completed a Certified Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) degree in Educational Leadership and Administration, General, which they obtained in 2018. Lisa then pursued a Doctor of Education (Ed.D) degree in Educational Leadership and Administration, which they completed in 2019.
Continuing their educational journey, Lisa joined the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2020. Here, they are working towards obtaining a Certificate of Advanced Educational Leadership (CAEL), set to be completed by 2022.
