Tobias Schmelzle

Tobias Schmelzle is an experienced leader in oncology drug discovery, currently serving as the Oncology Drug Discovery Head at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) since February 2007. In this role, Tobias oversees the preclinical discovery process, integrating diverse expertise to advance innovative therapies for cancer patients. Tobias has held multiple leadership positions at NIBR, including Executive Director and Director, contributing to global oncology strategies and project leadership. Prior to joining NIBR, Tobias completed postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard Medical School and the University of Basel-Biozentrum, focusing on mammary epithelial morphogenesis and TOR signaling, respectively. Tobias holds a Ph.D. from the University of Basel and a Dipl. Natw. ETH from ETH Zürich.
