Aleksey V. Orel

Born in: 1953 In 1975, Mr. Orel graduated from the Gubkin Institute of Oil and Gas in Moscow, with a degree in Geology, Prospecting and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields. In 1982 he received PhD in geology and mineralogy. From 1975 to 1987, Mr. Orel was an engineer and senior researcher at the All-Union Research Institute of Natural Gases (VNIIGAZ). From 1987 to 1989, he served as a chief project engineer at Zarubezhneft, the Syrian State Oil Company. From 1987 to 1991, Mr. Orel was a senior research fellow at the Institute of Geology and Development of Combustible Minerals (IGIRGI). From 1992 to 1994, he was a manager for natural resources and business development at Hyundai Corporation (Moscow office). From 1994 to 1999, Mr. Orel was Deputy Head of the Representative Office, coordinator of the Prirazlomnoye project from the foreign investor's side, BHP Petroleum. From 1999 to 2000, he held the position of Deputy Head of the Department for Licensing and Production Sharing Agreements at the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation. From 2000 to 2001, Mr. Orel held the position of Deputy Head of the Department for Preparation and Implementation of Production Sharing Agreements at the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation. From 2001 to 2002, he served as Deputy Head of the Department for Preparation and Implementation of Production Sharing Agreements at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation. From 2002 to 2004, Mr. Orel occupied the position of Deputy Director for Government Relations at ExxonMobil Russia Inc. From 2004 to 2009, he was Director for Development and Government Relations at the mining company Anglo American Services (Russia) Ltd. From 2009 to 2011, Mr Orel held the position of Director of the Moscow office at Imperial Energy Group (ONGC). From 2011 to 2022, he was the Director of Department of State Policy and Regulation in Geology and Subsoil Use of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation. Since 2019, Mr. Orel has been a Member of the Supervisory Board, the Russian Gas Society. Since March 2022, he has been the Advisor to the General Director of the All-Russian Research Geological Petroleum Institute.
