Seamus Murphy

Seamus Murphy has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries and roles. Seamus currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer at NOVO BANCO since March 2023. Prior to this, they worked at HSBC from June 2019 to March 2023, where they held the position of Global Chief Data & Analytics Officer, responsible for defining and executing the global data and analytics strategy for HSBC Commercial banking and Global Banking.

Seamus Murphy's experience also includes serving as a Board Member at DataIQ from February 2020 to January 2022, and as a Member of the Industry Advisory Council at The Analytics Institute of Ireland from February 2019 to February 2021. Seamus was also a Board Member on the Open Data Governance Board for the Government of Ireland from November 2018 to February 2021.

Earlier in their career, Seamus Murphy spent several years in senior technology and operational roles in the fields of insurance, banking, and manufacturing from September 1996 to September 2011. Seamus then joined AIB, where they held the positions of Chief Digital Officer from April 2016 to May 2019 and Chief Data Officer from September 2013 to April 2016. In these roles, they led significant transformation and innovation initiatives, delivering market-leading results and driving organizational success.

Seamus Murphy pursued their undergraduate studies from 1992 to 1996 at Queen's University Belfast, where they obtained a degree in Pure and Applied Mathematics. After a brief gap, they resumed their education in 2002 and completed a research program at Dublin City University in 2003. The focus of their research was on extending the Semantic Web Rule Language for Sensors. In terms of additional certifications, Seamus obtained the "Certified Banking Director" credential from The Institute of Banking in January 2019.
