Eric Whitney

NPR Bureau Chief, Rocky Mountain And Great Plains States

Eric Whitney is an experienced journalist currently serving as the NPR Bureau Chief for the Rocky Mountain and Great Plains states since September 2019. In this role, Eric oversees NPR's coverage across an eight-state region and manages a staff correspondent while collaborating with numerous NPR member station reporters. Prior to this position, Eric was the News Director at Montana Public Radio from 2014 to 2019 and worked as a Health Reporter at Colorado Public Radio from 2008 to April 2013, where a health beat was established. Earlier experience includes serving as News Director at KRCC FM from 2005 to 2007, where a newsroom was launched and a capitol reporter position was created. Additionally, Eric has freelanced as a journalist for various organizations, including a stint based in Cape Town, South Africa. Eric holds a BA in English Communications from Ft. Lewis College.
