John Ruwitch is an experienced international correspondent currently working for NPR since January 2020. Prior to this role, Ruwitch spent over 14 years at Thomson Reuters, where key positions included Bureau Chief and Senior Correspondent in Shanghai, Vietnam Bureau Chief, and South China Correspondent. Ruwitch's journalism career began with Reuters, where positions as a Correspondent and Graduate Trainee Journalist were held from September 2000 to August 2005. Ruwitch holds a Master of Arts degree in Regional Studies - East Asia from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with Honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Further academic pursuits include studies at National Taiwan University, Peking University, and continued learning at the Vietnamese Advanced Summer Institute and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
