Rob Schmitz is an experienced journalist currently serving as the Central Europe Correspondent for NPR since August 2016, having previously held the position of Shanghai Correspondent. Prior to NPR, Rob was the China Bureau Chief for Marketplace at American Public Media from May 2010 to August 2016. Rob's earlier roles include Los Angeles Bureau Chief at KQED, Orange County Reporter at KPCC, and Reporter/Producer at Minnesota Public Radio. Rob began a career in journalism after serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer from 1996 to 1998. Rob holds a Master of Science degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
