J.D. Zamfirescu has extensive work experience in various roles and industries. J.D. is currently working as the CTO at nSight Surgical since April 2021. Prior to this, they worked at California College of the Arts as an Assistant Professor starting from June 2014. Additionally, they were the Principal at Protist Lab, where they started in May 2017. From September 2017 to August 2019, J.D. worked as a Researcher at Stanford University. J.D. also served as a Lecturer at UC Berkeley College of Engineering from January 2018 to June 2018. Before that, J.D. co-founded Locus in April 2016 and served as a Co-Founder until April 2017. J.D. has also founded and served as the CEO of Workshop Weekend / What Will You Learn? from April 2011 to December 2015. J.D. started their career at Google where they worked as a Software Engineering from December 2009 to April 2011. Prior to that, they co-founded AppJet / EtherPad in October 2007 and worked there until December 2009. J.D. began their professional journey at Google as a Software Engineer from August 2006 to October 2007.
J.D. Zamfirescu began their education at Hunter College High School, where they studied from 1995 to 2001. Subsequently, they attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 2001 to 2006, earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Computer Science. After a break in their education, J.D. Zamfirescu pursued further studies at Cornell Tech from 2018 to 2019, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Human Computer Interaction. Currently, they are enrolled in the University of California, Berkeley, where they are working towards completing their PhD in Human Computer Interaction, expected to be completed in 2025.
