Chris Daunt has worked in the field of photonic design engineering since 2004. Chris began their career as a Team Manager at Zevas Communications, where they built a sales team and provided training for new sales people. Chris then joined University College Cork, Ireland (UCC) in 2007 as a PhD student and Laboratory Demonstrator. During their PhD research, they worked in the Integrated Photonics Group and focused on single growth monolithic integrated photonics, high-speed optoelectronics for telecommunications, III-V semiconductor materials, III-V semiconductor device fabrication, photonic device simulation and mask layout.
In 2012, Daunt joined Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR) as a Design Engineer, where they specialized in high data rate optoelectronic modulators for telecom (1.5 µm) and datacom (1.3 µm) environments. Chris was promoted to Senior Design Engineer in 2014, where they continued to specialize in high data rate optoelectronic modulators.
In 2019, Daunt joined Huawei R&D Belgium as a Senior Design Engineer. In this role, they specialized in advanced photonic circuit design and novel optical modulator development based on hybrid integration. This included technologies such as wafer bonding, transfer print and membrane modulators utilizing silicon and silicon nitride based platforms as well as InP. Applications included high speed coherent circuits such as integrated coherent transmitters and receivers (ICT and ICTRs) at 1550 nm as well as fully integrated transceivers for 400G CWDM at 1310 nm.
Daunt is currently working at Nubis Communications as a Photonic Design Engineer, a role they have held since 2022.
Chris Daunt obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from University College Cork in 2007 and a PhD in Physics from the same institution in 2012.
