At Nuestra Casa, we stand by our community to help navigate institutions, build people power, and use their voice to shape a new, more equitable community. Our programs in East Palo Alto and its surrounding communities build leaders who transform our local community and are actively engaged in our local economy, school district, and civic life. We work hard to build a community that leaves no one behind. Three core strategies inform every program, event, workshop, and advocacy effort we undertake:
We partner with Latino families to help them navigate the complicated systems that impact their lives from immigration to social services to health care. Nuestra Casa develops our educational offerings in direct response to the needs of our members—ranging from financial literacy to English classes, from adolescent parenting skills workshops to immigrants’ rights trainings.
We support Latino parents to become effective advocates for their children, at home, in local schools, and across the county.  Our network of trained Promotoras are community leaders to use their power to build trust with our members and respond to the needs of the community as educators and advocates.
We use our collective power to shape policies and programs which can make our community more equitable, prosperous, and healthy. Recent wins include the creation of an Office of Immigrant Affairs for San Mateo County, bringing a banking institution to East Palo Alto as part of a larger campaign to fight pay-day lending practices which harm our community, and launching our Food Recovery program that provides fresh fruit and vegetables to nearly 6,000 residents a month.

The Environmental Justice Team at Nuestra Casa works to identify and address environmental challenges impacting Latino communities in East Palo Alto and its surroundings. This team advocates for sustainable policies, leads community education efforts on environmental health, and engages residents in grassroots activism to combat environmental injustices. Their goal is to create healthier living conditions by empowering community members to take action and influence change at a local and county level.
