Launched in 1993 as a fan site for authorized live music trading, nugs.net turned professional in 2002 when Phish teamed up with Brad Serling to officially release downloads of every concert they played. Soon Metallica, Dave Matthews Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tim McGraw, Grateful Dead, and 1000 other artists tapped nugs.net to distribute their live concert recordings.
