Kirsten van Balen

Kirsten van Balen serves as the Head of Office for the Office of the Chair and Chief Executive and the Head of Strategic Communications at The Nursing and Midwifery Council since July 2020. Additionally, Kirsten is involved as an Assessor for the course "Strategic Communications in Society" at The London School of Economics and Political Science from October 2023 to April 2025. Prior experience includes notable roles such as Head of Global Creative Content and Global Content Planning Manager at Save the Children International from March 2017 to July 2020, and Creative Manager along with various positions at Amnesty International from February 2013 to March 2017, including Media Events and Planning Producer and Africa Programme Coordinator. Kirsten has also worked as a freelance Aid Impact Evaluation Consultant in Ghana in late 2010. Educational qualifications include a Master’s degree in Political Science with a focus on International Relations from the University of Amsterdam in 2010, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the same institution completed in 2009.
