Chief Engineer, Testing And Analysis at NuScale Power

Kent Welter has extensive experience in the field of nuclear engineering. Kent began their career in 1997 as a Graduate Research Assistant at Oregon State University, where they contributed to advanced thermal-hydraulic studies. Later, they worked at Argonne National Laboratory as a Visiting Scientist, conducting computational fluid dynamics calculations and supporting fuel testing programs. In 2002, Welter co-founded FLEXM Web Development, where they managed day-to-day operations and provided web and desktop application development services. From 2002 to 2007, they also worked at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a Reactor Systems Engineer and Project Manager, leading research plans for advanced nuclear reactor designs. Welter joined NuScale Power in 2008 and held various roles, including Principle Engineer, Safety Analysis Manager, Nuclear Safety Engineering Manager, and Chief Engineer, Testing and Analysis. Their responsibilities included overseeing safety analysis, managing engineering teams, and providing cross-functional technology leadership. Additionally, Welter served in leadership positions at organizations such as Willamette Innovators Network and MELTIO. Kent also acted as a Business Mentor at Oregon State University's Advantage Accelerator program.

Kent Welter has a strong academic background in engineering, particularly in the field of nuclear engineering. From 1993 to 1997, Kent attended Oregon Institute of Technology, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. Following this, they pursued further education at Oregon State University from 1997 to 2002, where they obtained both a Master of Science and a PhD in Nuclear Engineering.

In addition to their formal education, Kent Welter has also obtained several certifications throughout their career. Kent completed the "CM2-01 Foundation of Operational Excellence" certification program offered by The Institute for Process ExcellenceCM2 in December 2019. Additionally, in May 2015, they completed the "Next Level Leadership" certification program offered by the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations.
