Doug Taylor has a diverse range of work experience in the legal field. Doug began their career as an articling solicitor at Brodies LLP in 1995 before moving on to Maclay Murray & Spens LLP as an associate from 1998 to 2004. At DLA Piper, one of the largest global law firms, they served as a partner specializing in environmental, health, and safety issues from 2004 to 2009. Following this, they joined Davidson Chalmers LLP as a partner, focusing on environmental, waste, and renewable projects. Doug worked there from 2009 to 2012. From 2013 to 2015, they served as legal counsel and regulator at the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), advising on contractual and contentious negotiations in the Ontario electricity sector. Doug then worked at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP from 2015 to 2017 as counsel in the environmental and energy law groups, advising clients on various aspects of ESG and renewable energy projects. Currently, Doug Taylor holds the position of VP, General Counsel, Board Secretary & Chief Privacy Officer at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, where they are responsible for various legal matters, including Indigenous funding agreements and regulatory and environmental issues.

Doug Taylor completed their LLB (1st Class Honours) degree in Law at the University of Aberdeen from 1990 to 1994. Following this, they pursued their LLM degree at Dalhousie University from 1997 to 1998. Doug Taylor obtained the certification of being "Called to the Bar" from The Law Society of Scotland in September 1997 and later from The Law Society of Upper Canada in September 2014.
