Aafke Hulk

Aafke Hulk currently serves as the Chair of the Summit Grant Selection Committee at NWO since June 2023. As a professor in Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam since January 1990, Aafke's primary research interests include early child bilingualism, L1 and L2 acquisition of Romance and Germanic syntax, and the interaction between linguistic theory and language acquisition. Aafke has held various leadership roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam, and has contributed to several boards, such as the Board of Trustees of the Réseau français des instituts d'études avancées and the Board of Trustees of Stichting Openbaar Onderwijs Noord. Additionally, Aafke's involvement in academic governance includes positions on the Board of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research and as Scientific Director at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Aafke holds a degree in French Language and Literature and completed an executive program for Commissioners and Supervisors at Erasmus School of Economics.
