Cisca Wijmenga

Cisca Wijmenga is a distinguished academic and leader in human genetics, currently serving as the Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Large-Scale Research Infrastructure at NWO and as a member of the Supervisory Boards for Universiteit Leiden and Hanzehogeschool Groningen. With extensive experience in various advisory and supervisory roles, including positions at AWTI, UMCG, and EMBO, Wijmenga holds the title of Lodewijk Sandkuijl Professor of Human Genetics at UMCG and is active on several boards, such as Stichting AINed and Waddenacademie. Wijmenga earned a PhD, cum laude, from Leiden University, focusing on facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, and holds Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Groningen.
