Rachel Barrera

Associate Director of Operations at NYC Media Lab

Rachel Barrera is the current Associate Director of Operations at NYC Media Lab. Prior to their current position, Rachel was the Business Services Manager at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from July 2019 to March 2021. Before that, they were a Staff Specialist at Duke University from July 2016 to July 2019.

Rachel's professional journey began in 2015 when they interned at Oxford University Press as a Marketing Intern. In this role, they assisted the Institutional Marketing team with global communications projects and helped team members with a range of marketing campaigns and projects. Rachel also performed various administrative duties.

In May 2015, Rachel began working as a Receptionist at Sir Walter Chevrolet. In this role, they provided excellent customer service and demonstrated proficiencies in front-desk reception within a high volume environment. Rachel also maintained the safe and clean reception area by complying with procedures and regulations.

Finally, from October 2014 to July 2015, Rachel worked as a Universal Agent at AT&T.

Rachel has a wealth of experience in customer service, marketing, and administration. These skills have served their well in their current role as Associate Director of Operations at NYC Media Lab.

Rachel Barrera has a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Marketing from Meredith College.

They are on a team with Matt MacVey - Community & Project Lead for AI for Local News Initiative, Marion Bernstein - Communications Manager, and Omar Faruk - Associate Director of Marketing. Their manager is Steven Rosenbaum, Executive Director.
